Congratulations on your new addition!
Ideally, your new puppy or kitten would have their first veterinary appointment when they are about 8 weeks old. This is when we start deworming and vaccinations. They will visit us several more times during their first few months with you.
8 weeks: First visit and first vaccinations
12 weeks: Second visit and second booster vaccinations
16 weeks: Final puppy/kitten visit and one year booster vaccinations
What to expect from your first visit:
Your first visit will include a full “nose-to-tail” physical examination. We will look for any signs of illness and make sure that your new pet is in good health.
The veterinarian will review any previous records to confirm what treatments your pet may have already had.
Then they will create a plan geared towards your pet’s unique needs during their first yet!
We will discuss parasite prevention so that you can start your pet on their monthly medications to prevent flea/tick and heartworms.
Tips for your first visit:
Make a log of any questions that you have about your new pet’s behavior, diet, grooming, or training and bring that with you to the visit. The first visit can be very exciting and we want to make sure we answer all of your questions.
If your pet has been to the veterinarian or gotten vaccinations or medications before please bring those copies with you.
We always recommend bringing a fecal sample with you so that we can test for intestinal parasites.
